Ogham: Pine, Oak, in North America
A 2hr segment from my recent class featuring a discussion of pine and oak as well as a discussion of Ogham found in North America.
As part of my Bioregional Herbalist Apprenticeship I conducted a full day exploration of Ogham, its history, its composition, and how it relates to the Celtic cosmology, we also explored a few trees in the field in Arizona that are part of the classic tree Ogham tract.
In this segment I discuss both pine and oak and their relation to the Ogham.
You’ll find some accompanying images below.

One should disregard the flesc, or arrow mark at the top of each line as it’s confusing and incorrect. It seems to have been done to write the Ogham in an artful or symmetrical display.
Ogham fidh (“fee”) made on slices of tree tobacco (Nicotiana glauca).

Photo by author taken in a canyon in SE Colorado. Believed to be Ogham. Has been studied for over 40 years.
Photo taken by author west of Tucson, AZ. Although this petroglyph would likely be interpreted as representing a 4-legged animal, it has very close resemblance to Ogham as the character “Saille” representing “S”.
Stay tuned for more on the Ogham script. I will be creating some live online classes this autumn and winter. My email newsletter is the best place to stay informed of my upcoming events, live and in-person.
