Birth Trauma & Ancestral Relationships
The deeper we look at birth trauma, the more we see its evidence in the world around us. The sacred act of birth calls in all aspects of the people involved, including one's ancestors.
Exploring our own birth trauma is often a way of connecting to our ancestors, however displeasing some aspects of this exercise may be. Yet the potentially transformative power of this experience can lead us to treasures and opportunities for healing that we may have only dreamed of.
I sat down with my wife, Luka Barba, this morning (sorry for the unavoidable background noise) in a casual conversation about her very important work with mothers and babies. As a full-spectrum postpartum care provider, she seeks to care for and support the health of the mother-baby relationship on the physical, emotional, and spiritual level.
During this brief discussion, she briefly shares her progression towards doing the work she’s doing today. She articulates how a “sacred pause” is essential to move into this space of autonomic healing, or tapping into the somatic intelligence that knows how to heal.
Her explorations have led her to see how the native vitality seeks to express itself through patterns and this can also be seen inter-generationally through these very same patterns articulated in unique ways across the matrilineal line, especially.
The relevance of inherited ancestral trauma is great, even amidst the prevalence of de rigeur institutionalized trauma induced within the medical establishment.
Those who have an awareness of ancestral trauma can enable entire families to become whole or overcome otherwise helpless situations that even most holistic, or non-conventional practitioners may otherwise be unaware of.
